Although I started Primo Bait Company just eight years ago, I have been fishing all my life, starting in 1967 as a deckhand on a charter boat. In 1974 I took my first job as a captain on a 46' Hatteras. We fished several billfish tournaments each summer and I started experimenting with artificial lures but still fished mostly bait. Unable to consistently find good bait I bought a small vacuum machine and put up my own Spanish mackerel, mullet, and ballyhoo as many captains do now.

When we started fishing tournaments in the Bahamas other captains and anglers would tell me I had the prettiest mackerel they had ever seen and wanted to know where I had bought them. When I told them that I put up my own, the orders started coming in, and that is how Primo Baits got started! I am now in the bait business full time with Spanish mackerel as my specialty. I build special boxes with separate compartments (pictures coming soon) so the fish cannot move or touch another fish once they are caught.
